Inspiração: I took inspiration from the subject matter and the mission of the parade. The flora and fauna on the jaguar are found across Central and South America. The featured plants are heliconia, frangipani, papaya and passion fruit flowers. The butterflies are blue morpho and catasticta lycurgus, a species recently rediscovered in Columbia. Yellow butterflies have been a symbol of hope following their refence in 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The colors of leopard's spots coordinate with their surrounding the plants and butterflies.
Kandi Spindler's Bio': During the pandemic, I completed my MFA from Long Island University. I took classes in the evening because I work as a public defender, but I really wanted the experience of learning alongside other artists. I believe strongly that the collaborative efforts of artists can invoke change, particularly for the environment. I primarily work with acrylic and enamel paint, usually atop found surfaces and beach trash. I enjoy showcasing the beauty of recycled material and I particularly like depicting species subject to environmental crisis, especially marine life.
Materiais necessários: Acrylic paint and waterproofing varnish.
