Amoni's Bio': “Incarnating the enchantment in the combat”
Fire in the Bush, Luiz Antônio Simas e Luiz Rufino
Priscila Amoni is a visual artist, muralist, creative director, umbandaimist and mother.
Her work investigates the potencies of being a woman in a patriarchal and oppressive world.
Her artistic research is a claim to the wisdom of healers, terreiro women, mothers, goddesses,
orishas. The study of female bodies - in all its forms - together with the use of power and healing
plants, rescues the resistance strategies of women with empirical knowledge.
Painting is a way of prayer, of asking and desiring, of invoking strength. In her work, women and
plants and women-plants are Brazilian healers. Children are enchanted, half animals. From the
hands are born plants of power, tools of war or protection. Leaves are for bathing, blessing, tea,
medicine, seasoning. Hybridisms are bridges built with the spiritual plane.
The contemporaneity of Priscila’s work consists in the dialogue between classical fine painting
techniques on rough urban surfaces: a magical encounter between the ancestral and the
ephemeral nature of time.
